Enthusiastic children at a Lowestoft primary school had lots of fun as a colourful event was hailed as a success.

Multi-coloured mayhem transformed the grounds of St Margaret’s Primary Academy this week, as an end of term colour run was held.

And the smiles on the childrens’ faces said it all as they ran and jogged around a course in the grounds of the school and had different coloured powdered dyes thrown at them.

With staff at designated points along the route, yellow, pink, blue, green, red, purple and orange powdered paints were thrown into the air.

The colour run, which was held all day on Monday, was organised by Daniel Sharpe, PE lead at the school.

Mr Sharpe said: “Here at St Margaret’s we look at ‘simply making possibilities achievable.’

“One way that I interpret this into PE is by introducing new and exciting activities or events that children would not usually experience, or have the opportunity to take part in outside of the school.

“By doing this I encourage the children to stay active and enjoy exercise by having fun and making memories they will always cherish.

“When I look back at my time in primary education there isn’t much I remember about what we did in PE. I want that to change for the children of St Margaret’s and to encourage the passion and love for sport that I had when I was young.

“This way, when the children eventually move on and leave the school, they will take these memories with them and this will help to motivate them into taking part in future activities and in turn, affecting their health and well being.”

With timed slots for pupils in every year group – from Year 1 to Year 6 – the eager youngsters enjoyed the opportunity to try something new, while keeping active and having fun.

Mr Sharpe said: “I recently did the EACH colour dash at Normanston Park and as we try and hold a big event at the end of the year for all the children this was an ideal opportunity to keep active and have fun with it. The children have been smiling and have had lots of fun – they loved it.”

And there was an extra special treat in store for the children who participated – as they all received an engraved medal for taking part.
