Events are taking place across Lowestoft and Waveney today to raise funds for Comic Relief.

Pupils at Red Oak Primary School in Kirkley have paid 50p to wear red today while youngsters at Gunton Primary Academy have begun the day by singing the Red Nose song in morning assembly.

Children at Ladybird Day Care in Kirkley and Somerleyton Primary School are also wearing red to raise funds for charity.

Grove Primary School headteacher David Baker will perhaps make the biggest sacrifice of the day when he is 'gunged' by pupils.

The school has sold raffle tickets for the chance to tip buckets of water, wallpaper paste and beans over Mr Baker's head at the end of the school day.

Other Red Nose Day fun at the school in Carlton Colville has included filling red noses with coppers, wearing mismatched clothes and staff telling jokes continuously during the dinner hour.

Red noses and other merchandise have been on sale throughout the week at Ormiston Denes Academy and students were able to wear their red noses in school today.

A cake sale at break time raised £134 and students also made donations to take part in karaoke.

Ormiston Denes Academy is also joining in with #bakeamillion campaign, which has seen students bake Malteser cakes and post photos of their creations online in exchange for a £5 donation from Maltesers to Comic Relief.

Pledges have also been made for the cakes, with teachers buying the sweet treats to share with their departments.

Lilac Lodge care home in Oulton Broad got into the spirit of Red Nose Day with both staff and residents dressing up as cartoon and Disney characters.

Staff made a donation for wearing their costumes into work and the home also sold home-made cakes to raise funds for Comic Relief.

Manager Zena Stotter said: 'Everyone is having a great time on Red Nose Day. Two of our residents, Elaine Reeder and Pauline Cutler, also got dressed up.'
