A CONVICTED paedophile who sexually assaulted a 37-year-old man with learning difficulties has been jailed indefinitely for the protection of the public.

Sentencing 61-year-old George Elmstrom, Judge Neil McKittrick described his conduct towards his vulnerable victim as 'filthy' and said that after serving a two year sentence he would only be released when parole officials were satisfied it was safe to do so.

Elmstrom, of Hollingsworth Road, Lowestoft, admitted one offence of sexual assault in January this year and in addition to being jailed he was ordered to sign on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and banned from working with vulnerable adults.

Mark Roochove, prosecuting, told Ipswich Crown Court that the victim of the sex attack had visited Elmstrom's flat one evening and had let himself in with a key that had been given to him by the defendant.

Elmstrom had been in bed and had got up and walked into the living room naked and had sat down on the settee next to the man.

He had then undone the man's trousers and had sexually assaulted him while ignoring his victim's protests.

After the incident the man had gone home and contacted the police.

Mr Roochove told the court that in 2005 Elmstrom had been jailed for four years for sexually abusing a young girl.

Paul Sutton, for Elmstrom, said that on the night in question his client hadn't gone out looking for a vulnerable victim.

He said the defendant had done 63 parachute jumps for charity and wanted to spend the rest of his days in a monastery.
