Council praised

I FEEL congratulations are in order to the Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council.

Together they have initiated works to reduce the carbon footprint, and energy cost, of the seafront lighting.

I FEEL congratulations are in order to the Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council.

Together they have initiated works to reduce the carbon footprint, and energy cost, of the seafront lighting.

Is this the start of a healthy review, sorting out needs from wants?

It may be very nice to be able to read a newspaper under new powerful street lighting, but can it be afforded in terms of diminishing energy sources?

It's a pity that the Sunrise Scheme didn't have a greater energy conservation content, and, after spending all that money to attract tourism to the area, isn't it a little counterproductive to contemplate closing a significant number of public conveniences.

Still, it will help to conserve water, but then, so would discouraging the presumably shy or lazy men from diving into a WC cubicle merely to pass water, thereby wasting about a two gallon flush. The urinal stalls would have a regulated flush anyway.

If the cleaning of the toilets wasn't so intensive and costly maybe more could stay open.
