TENANTS living in council homes in Waveney have voted the local authority's service and houses among the best in the country.

New figures from the department for communities and local government have shown that 90pc of Waveney District Council tenants were satisfied with the quality of the property in which they lived - a figure beaten by only two of the other 181 councils.

Ninety percent of tenants were happy with the helpfulness of the council's staff, and 83pc were satisfied with their neighbourhood.

Out of the 182 councils surveyed, Waveney came in 13th place for overall satisfaction with the housing service.

Sue Allen, the council's portfolio holder for housing, said: 'I'm delighted that these results are extremely positive for Waveney and are a very real endorsement of the outstanding service our housing team provides. Although there are always areas that can be improved, this is a comprehensive survey, carried out across the country by an independent organisation, and shows that our tenants are very pleased with the service they receive from us.'
