A councillor has used pedal power to ride across the country from west to east and raise more than £2,800 for an autism and learning difficulties charity.

David Ritchie, deputy cabinet member for adult social care at Suffolk County Council and cabinet member for planning and coastal management at Waveney District Council, along with three friends finished his journey at Ness Point at Lowestoft.

They were raising money for FitzRoy, a charity which transforms lives by supporting people with learning disabilities to do the simple things that make a real difference to their everyday life.

The 66-year-old said: 'The most challenging part was the third day, we had been over the Cumbria mountains but I was tired by then.

'We have had so much support and generosity.'
