Crackdown on loud exhausts

I READ with interest the recent report of the police crackdown on tinted car windows and loud exhausts.

While I fully agree that loud exhausts are an unreasonable scourge on our streets I think it only fair that in further reporting you should make it clear that, third-party tinting of driver and passenger front windows is not in fact illegal.

While I fully agree that loud exhausts are an unreasonable scourge on our streets I think it only fair that in further reporting you should make it clear that, third-party tinting of driver and passenger front windows is not in fact illegal.

The problems arise when uninformed or un-interested drivers ignore existing guidelines and use “limo” tint on windows, for which it was not designed.

Perversely, some manufacturers tinted windows (usually on large imported and expensive 4x4's and people carriers) are actually illegal ex-works.

On a personal note, I can't help wondering if the police,in their wisdom, will apply the law with equal fervour to these vehicles too. In my experience, sadly I think not.
