I FEEL compelled to write a reply to the person who wrote about their feelings regarding what they claimed was the unnecessary and possible abusive vocal support at a recent game involving Lowestoft Town and Hungerford, in the FA Vase (February 20).

The club has witnessed an increase level of support due to our growing success, however, this does bring with it an increase on the workload of the unsung heroes of our club: the volunteers who perform stewarding duties.

As your mystery writer suggested the stewards should be more proactive but I'd like to say they are already and perform their duties very well with no rewards apart from the knowledge of knowing they do their bit for the club ensuring everyone is safe and able to enjoy the match.

I've spoken to a number of them who felt very hurt and upset by the letter, as do the fans.

The flip side of this is we have been commended by other clubs, and schools, who provide the ball boys and girls.

If the writer or any other person felt the need to write in why doesn't he or she join us at the club and volunteer to help steward match days, that way they can be sure, if it was needed, that the fan's celebrations and songs are kept in order and will take the workload off our already stretched stewarding team.
