Cyclists encouraged to sign up for annual bike ride in Lowestoft

Keen cyclists are being encouraged to saddle up for a popular annual charity bike ride.
The Ron Sampson Charity Cycle Ride, organised by Lowestoft’s East Point Rotary Club, will take to the country roads around Carlton Colville once more later this month.
The eighth sponsored annual charity ride will take place on Sunday, June 21 – with organisers from the Rotary Club of Lowestoft East Point urging everyone to get involved and join in.
The event was renamed in 2013 in memory of Mr Sampson, 69, a popular Rotarian from Gisleham, who died after a stroke.
Organiser Steve James said: “We hope that families, schools, clubs, businesses and so forth will all get involved.”
Proceeds from this year’s event on Sunday, June 21, will be donated to the Rotary Club Trust Fund, which supports a variety of charities locally, nationally and internationally.
Organisers will also be supporting the national Ride for Rotary event that is taking place on this particular day, which is promoting awareness for Prostate Cancer.
Registration for the ride will be at Uplands Community Centre, in Ashburnham Way, Carlton Colville from 9am.
Entrants will have a choice of three routes – either six, 10 or 20 miles long – which all finish back at the community centre. Riders can start between 10am and 11am and should finish by 2.30pm at the latest. Entrants will receive a certificate on completion of the ride and anyone who raises more than £25 in sponsorship or donations will be entered into a draw to win a £300 voucher towards a new bicycle from Lifecycles in Lowestoft.
Organisers stressed the event was not a race and meant to be a fun day to raise money by sponsorship and donations for the good causes.
They have set up a charity donation page – https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/therotarycluboflowestofteast pointcharitabletrustfund – which encourages entrants to link to the page. Alternatively, visit www.eastpointrotary.org.uk for more details.
