Parents and carers have until the end of the month to secure their child's place at a Suffolk secondary school for September 2015.

Suffolk County Council has urged parents and carers to get their applications in by the closing date of October 31 to give children the best chance of securing entry at a preferred secondary school.

Even if a family lives next door to a school they should not assume they will automatically get a place and it is also recommended that parents and carers include more than one school on the application form.

Lisa Chambers, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for education and skills, said: 'One of the most important decisions that any parent or carer makes on behalf of their child is choosing the right school for them. I would urge all parents and carers to make an application by October 31.

'It is possible to list a maximum of three schools on the application form. I would strongly advise parents and carers to do this to avoid disappointment.'

Parents and carers should apply online or in writing by posting the application form to the address on the back of it. If demand is greater than places available at a school, places will be decided according to the school's agreed oversubscription criteria.
