VANDALS ran amok along Lowestoft promenade this week, leaving beach huts badly damaged.

The beach huts on the lower Esplanade at Jubilee Parade were targeted between Monday and Tuesday (May 17, May 18) and at least six were reported to have suffered damage.

And the latest acts were condemned by one beach hut owner, who wished to remain anonymous.

He told the Journal: 'Two of the council-owned huts have been left with their doors hanging off, three other wooden huts had their doors kicked in while one hut had its roof torn off - and we haven't even started the summer season yet as this mindless vandalism goes on.'

Lowestoft police this week confirmed that several huts were reported as being damaged between 5pm on Monday and 3.50am on Tuesday.

'Damage was caused to wooden doors of three of the huts and a fourth was pushed over and rolled causing damage to the roof and the floor,' a police spokesman said.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about the damage incidents or the any details of those responsible.

The police spokesman added: 'We would particularly like to trace a youth on a bicycle, described as male, white, aged in his late teens, with short gingery-coloured hair and dressed in white

'He approached the occupier of the hut which was pushed over, asked her if she had lost any items from the hut and then directed her to where an item that had been taken was found.'

Anyone with information on the damage should contact the Crime Investigation Bureau on 01473 613500.
