An experience day is being held at Lowestoft South fire station this weekend in a bid to attract more on-call firefighters.

Firefighters from all walks of life are needed and anybody who wants to find out more about becoming an on-call firefighter is welcome to join the morning session.

There will be two sessions on the day, with a female only session in the afternoon as part of the event.

Matthew Hicks, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for public protection, said: 'Many of the fire engines across Suffolk are crewed by part-time, on-call firefighters and they are extremely professional and provide an excellent service to their local community. By putting on these events we are trying to encourage as many people as possible to consider a career as an on-call firefighter as it is a rewarding one but it can also be challenging.'

As part of the event tomorrow, there will be a taster of the recruitment process such as a fitness test as well as opportunities to talk to current firefighters about their role. Sessions will be held between 10am and 12.30pm (all welcome) and 12.30pm to 3pm (females only). To book a place, contact 01473 260588 or fire.businesssupoport@suffolk.gov.uk
