I'VE been following the recent debate regarding the banning of dogs on the beach and until just before Christmas I had some sympathy for the owners and walkers.
I'VE been following the recent debate regarding the banning of dogs on the beach and until just before Christmas I had some sympathy for the owners and walkers. Not any more.
In my own opinion dogs should be banned from both the beach and the promenade as owners are just not responsible enough to clear up after their pets.
Why should I have to spend an hour each time I take my grandsons out for a ride on their bikes cleaning off this repugnant mess?
Before all dog owners come out with the standard "but it's only the minority" line; I'm well aware of this but there are more than a few who are not clearing up.
Technology in this day and age, with CCTV cameras dotted all along the promenade areas, means there should be no escape for lazy owners.
Put in place a fine system and adhere to it and the council will probably make more money than turning all the free car parks into pay and display ever will.
Better still, ban dogs completely and the problem won't exist - the tourists who walk the prom in the summer, eyes down to avoid the piles of mess, might even get to look up and admire the views.
