A popular attraction in the Lowestoft area has unveiled its programme of events for the forthcoming year.

The East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville will mark a significant milestone later this year – as the 50th anniversary of the museum in Chapel Road is celebrated.

And after more than 1,100 visitors attended the museum over a 'very successful' end of season gala last year, event organisers are looking forward to the new season with a varied programme of events for 2015.

The season starts with a celebration of Easter and an Easter egg hunt for children over the weekend of April 4/5 before the 'roaring 40s' will be recalled as the museum hosts a mid May 40s weekend on Saturday and Sunday May 16/17. A spokesman for the transport museum said: 'Join us for a wonderful look back at the roaring 40s, come along in period costume and join in the fun! There will be free bus services running to Lowestoft and Beccles, along with many visiting vehicles of the era. The evening running of our fleet on Saturday in the unique setting of the museum by the gentle glow of lamplight with the sounds of the band playing make this a weekend not to be missed.'

Fifty years ago the Carlton Colville site became a museum, and this milestone will be marked with a special event on the weekend of July 4/5. With all of the museum's usual facilities in operation, the venue will be open between noon and 9pm on July 4 and between 10.30am and 4.30pm on the Sunday.

An Autumn gala event will be held on September 26/27, before a Halloween event takes centre stage on Saturday, October 31 between noon and 9pm. A spokesman for the transport museum said: 'We promise you lots of ghostly goings on and frights galore. Ride the trams into the woods, just the place to attract the ghosts and ghouls. There will be prizes for all children in fancy dress.'

With a free park and ride service operating on a number of these event days, there will be no parking at the museum.

And returning this year once more, the museum's ever popular Santa Tram will take place on the weekends of December 5/6, December 12/13 and December 18/19/20. Admission for this event will be by pre-booked ticket only – available from mid-August – please visit www.eatm.org.uk for details nearer the time, and for more information about the museum's special events.
