A coastal college has received a special award in recognition of its support for young carers.
East Coast College (ECC) has been presented with the Carer Friendly Tick Award for Education honouring its work to make the college a welcoming place for all young carers and young adult carers.
ECC has become the first further education college in the region to receive the award which was presented by Caring Together – a leading charity supporting carers of all ages across Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
In order to achieve the accolade, ECC had to demonstrate how it raises awareness and supports its young carers in all aspects of their college life.
Nikki Lane, assistant principal for student support and wellbeing, said: “We’re really proud to be awarded the Carer Friendly Tick Award in Education. “It’s vitally important that our young carers have a voice to help make college an accessible and welcoming place for all with caring responsibilities.”
