Emergency Work to reline a sewer in Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, will be carried early this week to reduce future risk of sewer collapse and damage to the road itself.

From today, traffic lights will be in place on a 100 metre section of the road, outside the Denes High School, so that the contents of the sewer can be pumped from one manhole to another. This will give engineers the opportunity to introduce a resin-impregnated liner into the empty sewer, creating a smooth long-lasting internal lining without the need to dig up the road.

This work is expected to take three days and the traffic management should be removed on the evening of Wednesday, July 16.

Sara Rowland from Anglian Water said; “We hope to minimise the inconvenience to road users by carrying out this work when lowest daily traffic flows occur and by using a modern no-dig technique. It is important to carry out this work now, in an organised fashion, to reduce the need for future emergency works.

“We have worked closely with the Highways Agency to ensure drivers are well informed.

“We believe that to proactively reline the sewer is the most sensible option.”

This follows work carried out last weekend in the same stretch of the A12 to temporarily repair a collapsed section of sewer. A CCTV survey carried out since then has shown that the sewer must be relined
