HALF a century of flying was celebrated at a special event at the weekend hosted by Waveney Flying Group.

The group, which has been based at Seething Airfield since it was founded in 1960, shared its 50th anniversary celebrations with members and students past and present.

The weekend of activities included the group's first Great East Anglian fly-in, in which pilots of all types from across the country were invited to join the celebrations, including a 'hangar bash' and barbecue.

The south Norfolk airfield continues to be a popular base for both flying and pilot training and is run on a professional but non-commercial basis.

It was a poignant day for members, in that it could not be shared with holiday entrepreneur Jimmy Hoseason, co-founder of the group.

Mr Hoseason was an active member of the club and was still flying with a co-pilot until a couple of weeks before he died in November, aged 82.

Members marked the huge contribution he made to the club by dedicating a new hangar in his name.
