ERASE should hear council out
IF ERASE's main objection to the proposed new Pakefield high school is safety concerns its method of making its case by pressing buttons on crossings was naive.

Pedestrian, toucan and pelican crossings are needed to make school runs safe for walking and cycling.
Does ERASE believe that those motorists who tooted their support did so out of safety concerns?
They would do that wherever the school was proposed because their only concern is being delayed. ERASE was arguably contradicting itself.

I can't help suspecting that the real concern is the nuisance factor of extra cars on local roads.
As a sustainable transport activist and someone who lives opposite a school entrance I empathise with that.

However, Suffolk County Council's proposal for a link road from the A12 strikes me as good.
It might then be possible to look at discouraging car school runs along Kilbourn Road and concentrate on making it a walking and cycling route. It is already close to a designated quiet cycling route. I appreciate residents will want some say but I suggest extending the keep clear areas.
I think ERASE needs to hear out the county council a bit more just yet.
