NOW that the country is discovering how clever and cunning our so called democracy is, the citizens now have the opportunity to change the system into a fair democracy for all.

I am an 84-year-old ex serviceman who always uses his vote but often see it wasted.

Here are a few things I would like to happen.

Disengage the monarchy and Church of England from power over politics.

Give the Queen the vote, she is a British citizen.

Move the two Houses of Parliament to the centre of England.

Have a fair voting system, optional preferential voting, similar to Queensland, Australia.

Let local people who pay council tax and local councils have more control over the money they pay into the system.

Stop safe havens so that people must pay their due taxes and not be a burden to the honest tax payer.

Fixed term parliaments in lower and upper houses (Commons and Lords), and the Speaker should be voted in by the people.

Educate our children more about democracy and politics if we are aiming for a more caring society.

Go and chase up you MPs, many people have fought and died to give us the right to vote.

We should honour them by not wasting it.
