LATE last month, a great deal of interest was stirred up when we took a look back to a defining time for Sparrow's Nest and the Royal Naval Patrol Service.

The service was due to hold their annual reunion during the first week of October - and to help remind people of the enormous sacrifice that numerous young people made for their country, we retold the story of how the RNPS took over Sparrow's Nest.

As part of the article, local historian John Holmes provided a picture of the service parading at the Nest in the early 1940s. The image sparked countless memories for those involved with the service over the years, as well as their close friends and family.

Among those to notice a familiar face was Royce Dimbleby, of Blundeston. The 74-year-old spotted his brother Ken - who can be seen in the middle of this zoomed-in section of the photograph - and this stirred numerous old memories as he reminisced about those turbulent times.

Mr Dimbleby thinks that his brother, who served for many years in the RNPS, was probably 18 or 19 years old at the time.

This sighting prompted him to uncover another old image of his brother to show how he had changed over the years.

Among his collection of old photographs was this family line-up from his wedding day, above.

Royce married Joan Must in Lincolnshire, on February 23, 1957. The two had originally met in Lowestoft and would go on to live together in the town after Royce left the armed forces.

This image from their wedding day - around 15 years after the image of the RNPS in Sparrow's Nest - shows Royce's mother and father, together with his many brothers and sisters on the happy day, including RNPS member Ken. Missing are his siblings Charlie and Joyce, but his twin sister Renee is featured.

The line-up reads: Frank (father), Reg, Renee, Dan, Brenda, George, Beryl, Ken, Frank, Rhoda (mum). At the front is Jill.
