HELP NEEDED: A Gunton family is appealing for help as they work hard to raise money to fund an essential operation for their beloved pet dog.

The family dog, Frank, is a three-year-old Bullmastiff, who has been diagnosed with a dislocated left hind leg that requires an operation which includes the rebuilding of his ligaments.

The Rowan-Locke family, who live in Harris Avenue, were dismayed when they were told by a vet that because of his size, Frank’s operation would cost more than £1,500 and if they didn’t have the operation then the likelihood was that he would have to be put down.

Tara Rowan, mother to two young children (pictured), is keen that her otherwise healthy and happy dog be given the chance to recover from his injury.

“I feel I’m letting him down by not being able to fix him,” she said. So, seeking a second opinion, she contacted the Wherry Veterinary Hospital in Bungay, who have helped the family set up an account so that funding for the much-needed operation can be raised.

Currently Frank is at home and is on painkillers. The Wherry Veterinary Hospital, has advised the family that the operation has to be performed in the next eight weeks.

To help raise the money, the Rowan-Locke family have already organised a number of fund-raising events and they have been overjoyed with the amount of support from the local community who want to help Frank. And having raised more than £400 so far, another £800 is still needed to be raised – with time limited.

Anyone who wishes to help should contact the Lowestoft Journal offices, quoting “Frank”, leaving any donations at our reception in London Road North. Alternatively call Mark Boggis at The Journal on 01502 525833 or email mark.boggis@archant.co.uk with your contact details and we can pass on your information to the family.
