LIKE DAUGHTER, LIKE MUM! Southwold's new mayor will continue a family run of civic duties when she takes over from her daughter next month.

Sue Doy, who has been a member of the town council since 2002, is the town's new mayor-elect and will take up the role at the town meeting on May 11.

She said: “I was very honoured when the council asked me if I would think of standing. I've had the backing of the full complement of councillors, which has been very reassuring.”

Mrs Doy, who will perform her mayoral duties with her husband Derek, has lived in Southwold for most of her life, only leaving to spend part of her childhood in Reydon. She will succeed her daughter, Teresa Baggott, who has been mayor for the past two years. “Teresa has done a great job - I've got a very hard act to follow,” she said.
