TRUMPETS sounded as parents, pupils and teachers celebrated the official opening of the new classrooms at Blundeston Primary School.
The new activity area and year one and year two classrooms were completed in the summer as part of Suffolk County Council’s education shake-up across the Lowestoft area, which will see middle schools phased out by next September.
The extra space was needed to enable the school to cope with the two additional year groups.
To mark the official opening last Friday, the year five brass band played to parents, staff, governors and fellow pupils, and the Rev Leslie Hobbs said a prayer and blessed the school.
Headteacher Kate Schonhut said: “It’s super for us. It’s a fantastic building and we’ve been very lucky.
“It’s given us lots more space and it’s a beautiful design.”
The first bricks were laid on January 1 this year and building works finished in mid-July. The interior was finished while the children were on their summer holidays.
The project also included a new office area, medical room and outdoor covered play area.
