A father-of-two has set off on a two-week trip walking almost the length of Suffolk to raise money for the National Autistic Society.

Stuart Morgan, of Lowestoft, set off yesterday carrying just camping essentials to walk to Ipswich and back.

He will be sleeping in his small tent during the 14 day trip and relying on the generosity of shops, cafes, pubs and homeowners for food, drink and accommodation if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

He has been inspired to raise money for the National Autistic Socety by his son, Simon, who suffers from Asperger's syndrome. He said: 'I hope people will appreciate what I'm doing for what I consider to be a worthwhile and important cause. I'll do anything I can to help Simon have a better quality of life.

'I only moved to the area three months ago and don't know many people so this will be quite a challenge. People have been very supportive so far and I think it will be an interesting experience.'

Mr Morgan will cover more than 100 miles walking to Ipswich and back via Martlesham, Woodbridge, Wickham Market, Saxmundham, Darsham, Halesworth, Illketshall St Lawrence, Bungay, Beccles, Worlingham and Oulton Broad, arriving back in Lowestoft at about 1pm on Monday November 15.

He said: 'I broke my hip and fractured by pelvis 10 years ago so walking so far will be quite painful. I'm planning to go as far as I can and then just pitch up my tent wherever I end up. I'm hoping people will help me, I've got no money or food with me so I need to find some generous people.'

Mr Morgan's camping and walking equipment has been donated by Go Outdoors in Norwich.
