THE business community in Lowestoft is getting together to make the Christmas period special for those who might otherwise be on their own.

THE business community in Lowestoft is getting together to make the Christmas period special for those who might otherwise be on their own.

Led by David Moss, of Lowestoft's South Pier, the group of business leaders in the area will be providing 500 three-course meals over 12 days from December 8 at the Galley Restaurant on the pier.

“We want to give something back to the Lowestoft area and believe giving a free meal to people who are lonely is a way of doing this,” said Mr Moss.

“I would like to personally thank all the businesses that have supported the initiative and believe that this could become an annual Christmas feature for Lowestoft,” he said.

Mr Moss wants to hear from people who would like to benefit from the initiative.

“Everything is in place and we just need to hear from people who deserve to be treated.

“If you know an elderly friend, neighbour or relative who may be on their own this Christmas, tell us about them and the Galley Restaurant will provide them with a free three-course lunch along with 40 new friends.

“We can even transport people to the lunches thanks to Yellow Cleaning who will be supplying mini buses,” said Mr Moss.

Among the businesses supporting Mr Moss's initiative are Asda, Birds Eye, Booker, Burgess, Broadview Wine Bar, Carlsberg, Chadds, The Journal, Tesco, Wrentham Christmas Trees, Yellow Cleaning and Red Hot Media.

“We are always happy to hear from other businesses that would like to support us and give a special Christmas to as many people as possible,” said Mr Moss.

The lunches will be held on weekdays and will cater for between 40 and 50 people at a time.

Anyone wanting to help or nominate someone for a Christmas meal can telephone 01502 502224 for more information.
