I WAS lucky to attend the very last Sunday service at the Bethel which sadly closed its doors to its parishioners that day.

I WAS lucky to attend the very last Sunday service at the Bethel which sadly closed its doors to its parishioners that day.

It was a beautiful service. The organ music was fantastic, the women's choir delightful and traditional hymns sung.

Sadness amongst the congregation was almost palpable, I shall remember it all my life.

My friend, Paula, who now lives in Norwich, was living in Lowestoft when her husband was lost at sea. He was an engineer on the Boston Pioneer and the whole ship went down, lost at sea. She was a young widow with three young children. She remembers they had a memorial service for them at the Bethel; she was upset to hear it was closing.
