Flag disappointment

I WAS disappointed to note that the Red Ensign was not flown at the Royal Plain War Memorial on Sunday or Tuesday.

The Merchant Navy played a very significant part in both wars, losing proportionately, far more personnel than the armed forces.

The Merchant Navy played a very significant part in both wars, losing proportionately, far more personnel than the armed forces. They deserve a place in history and inclusion in any remembrance celebrations.

For a town that claims a maritime heritage this omission is quite unforgivable.

I have also noted that the Red Ensign is not flown on Merchant Navy Day. Perhaps those responsible for raising flags on specific days could address this point.
