FLY-TIPPERS came under fire this week after a pile of household rubbish - including a fridge, children's toys, bikes, a trampoline and general waste - was dumped in Oulton Broad.

Council chiefs condemned those responsible, and appealed for help in tracking down the culprits, after the far end of Harbour Road was targeted twice within the space of a few days.

Last week, Waveney Norse's cleansing service team was called out to remove a 'truck full of garage and garden waste' that had been unceremoniously dumped at the spot.

But just days after the area had been cleaned, another pile of rubbish was left at the site - prompting locals to hit out at that was described as 'a shameful example of domestic fly-tipping.'

The Journal's Tidy Town campaign, led by Waveney Norse and Waveney District Council, continues to highlight the hotspots across the town.

And just two months after fly tippers were criticised by the council for being 'ignorant, lazy and with no thought for others,' the council's cleansing team have been kept busy with more call-outs. Mike Daniels, Waveney Norse's cleansing service manager, said: 'The fly tipping at Harbour Road was cleared over a week ago and I got called out on the Sunday as someone's car was blocked in by it. We cleared a path so the car could get out.

'However, it seems as if another load has been dumped.'

The team were set to clear the area once more yesterday.

Mr Daniels called on locals to help play their part in cracking down on fly tipping by helping to catch those responsible for blighting the local landscape.

He said: 'The last load was a truck full of garage and garden waste. The waste was investigated but no evidence was found.

'However, if someone saw a tipper truck in the area with waste on it, and they have got details, please let us know.

'We do not normally get fly-tipping in this area and it is a concern that we have two loads within a week.

'We will be monitoring the area in future.'

With this in mind, the council has issued the following advice for people who witness someone fly-tipping.

Please make a note of the following information - the day, date and time you saw the tipping; how many people and what they looked like; what they were doing and what was tipped; any vehicles involved (make, colour and registration number) and where you were when you saw the fly-tipping.

If you see someone fly tipping, telephone the council's Environmental Services on 01502 562111.
