A WOMAN who grew up in Kessingland is set to hit the national airwaves by presenting her own radio show.
From Thursday, Amber Butchart, right in picture, will be presenting her weekly swing show on Jazz FM – entitled Peppermint Candy – with her DJ partner Nisha Thirkell. The pair were invited to present the show from 6pm to 7pm every Thursday as their “Broken Hearts DJ” swing music act became known in the music world.
Amber, who attended Sir John Leman School in Beccles and has modelled for Vogue, will be playing music from the heyday of swing with classic songs from performers such as Cab Calloway to contemporary tunes by acts including The Correspondents.
Amber said: “I am very excited about Peppermint Candy. A lot of people do not realise how swing music still influences music today.”
To mark their radio show, Amber and Nisha have created a swing compilation album which will be released by record company Universal in July. In October 2007 the Broken Hearts released their first single Black Cat which was played that year at London Fashion Week. The pair have performed in Paris, Stockholm and Milan and they regularly play in London venues.
Amber has also been a top fashion buyer for London store Beyond Retro, has modelled for television and performed in a burlesque cabaret show the Backstage Belles.
Jazz FM can be found at 102.2 MHz.
