AN Ipswich Town fan is competing in the new Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon on August 30, with the aim of raising money to support the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Mark Sherwood, originally from Lowestoft but now living in Hampshire, was deeply saddened by Sir Bobby's death and has pledged to raise 500 for the Foundation.

Incredibly though, just the week before the Ipswich Half Marathon, Mark will be taking part in the Eireman which is an ironman distance triathlon. This is a 2.4 mile swim in the Irish Sea, followed by a 112 mile cycle ride and then a marathon 26.2 mile run to finish. There is a limit of just 17 hours to complete the whole course.

Although Mark is not worried by the distance of the Ipswich Half Marathon, he is concerned that he might not have fully recovered from the Eireman. Mark said: 'The half marathon distance does not worry me that much any more but I am concerned if I can recover both mentally and physically from the Eireman with it being just the week before the Ipswich Half Marathon.

'As an Ipswich Town fan, after the sad news of his death, it seemed appropriate to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.'

Mark has set himself a target of 500 to raise and can be sponsored online at www.justgiving.com/OneBobbyRobson
