A young gambling addict cleaned out his 82-year-old grandmother's bank account when taking £11,000 to feed his habit.

Oliver Farrow, of Sycamore Avenue, Lowestoft, pleaded guilty at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich to fraud by false representation.

The 22-year-old committed the offence in the two-month period between October 3, 2016, and December 15, 2016.

Prosecutor Wayne Ablett said Farrow had taken £11,101 from his grandmother.

She had bought items for him previously and had trusted him with her bank card details to make online purchases.

However, Farrow had gone on to abuse that trust.

The fraud was discovered when she went to withdraw money and realised her account was empty, the court heard.

It was discovered Farrow had made multiple online transactions for gambling.

The bank referred the matter to police.

The case was adjourned until April 19 for a pre-sentence report.

Farrow, who was given unconditional bail, was warned by magistrates his case could still be sent to the crown court for sentencing.
