Keianna Strevens decided that she wanted to do something unique to help the battle to beat cancer after her father Phil was diagnosed with the disease in April 2013 and spent a number of months in hospital having chemotherapy.

His daughter has been there for him the whole time and she recently visited Robert Owen Hairdressers, on London Road South, to have 10 inches of her hair cut off and donated to 'The Little Princess Trust'- a charity that provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Speaking about her brave actions, Keianna said: 'I have been trying to think of something that I could do to raise money.

'I love my hair; Daddy lost all of his for a while, so I thought I could give him some of mine.

'It turns out that the Little Princess Trust can use my hair to make wigs for people.

'So I decided I would cut off my hair, not all of it, mummy and daddy won't let me. But as much of it as I can get away with.'

Keianna is close to raising her target for Cancer Research UK. Her father said he and his wife Claire are 'immensely proud' of their daughter.

'I lost all my hair and Keianna, kindly offered me some of hers', Mr Strevens said.

'We joked about it initially, but then my wife, Claire, told us about the Little Princess Trust.

'The trust uses donated hair to produce wigs for children who are suffering.

'I have already completed some fund-raising through sponsorship for Cancer Research UK but Keianna wanted to do her bit as well.

'We are immensely proud of her actions and think she looks gorgeous with her very short hair style. She donated 10 inches in length.'
