A group of amateur winemakers have been producing their own drinks for 50 years.

And marking this special anniversary in style, they toasted success as a party was held on Saturday.

The Lowestoft and District Amateur Wine Circle held its annual summer get together at Pakefield church hall with 60 members and guests joining in the celebrations.

Chairman Beryl Rooke and her husband joined the club a few years after it had begun. She said: 'As the wine circle is in its 50th year we decided to give the gathering a gold theme.

'We invited the Lowestoft Signing Choir along to entertain us and then enjoyed a buffet tea and a game of stand-up bingo.'

Mrs Rooke added: 'The winemakers circle all share the same passion for making wine. We run monthly competitions where our homemade drinks are judged. But the highlight of the year is our annual show where as well as sweet and dry table wines we also judge wines made with fruit and flowers as well as liqueurs.'
