RAINBOW Day Nursery held a grand reopening on Saturday to show off the new safe surface for outside play.

The surface has been paid for by the hard work of parents and staff over several months.

One father ran the London Marathon to raise sponsorship money and a child even raised £97 for a sponsored egg and spoon race.

The open day was a huge success with foot races for the children to try out the new surface, stalls, face painting, a decorated hat competition and an opportunity for parents to try food cooked in the new kitchens.

The ribbon cutting at the nursery, in Camp Road, was carried out by Peter Aldred who raised £370 running the marathon.

The new surface is part of a programme of improvements to the nursery over the last few months including taking on the preparation of healthy freshly prepared foods. The hard work continues to improve Lowestoft's only co-operative nursery as the staff and parents are dedicated to improving facilities for the children.
