A large outdoor cinema event is set to return to Beccles for film fans in the area.

Pop Up Pictures, which is based in Norwich, will bring back The Great Outdoor Cinema Club to Caxton Meadow between June 29 and July 1 to screen classic films in a unique setting.

It begins with Throwback Thursday on June 29 and a showing of 1980s cult classic The Lost Boys, followed by Tom Cruise's Top Gun on Friday, June 30.

The final screening, on Saturday, July 1 is set to have the whole audience singing and dancing along as the three-day event finishes with the iconic musical Grease.

Pop up Pictures is run by event planners Danny Banthorpe and Andrew Bunn, as well as web developer Olly Sear. Mr Banthorpe said: 'We want to provide people with the experience of being with their family and friends, with a blanket and beanbags in the charm of the outdoors.'

The choice of films is decided via polls on the group's Facebook page, and Mr Banthorpe said: 'Classic films are always the favourites - when you leave it to the people to decide you can guarantee Grease or Dirty Dancing will be number one.

'With older films especially it gives parents the chance to show their own children what they enjoyed when they were younger and perhaps watch something they haven't seen in a while.'

Mr Banthorpe said future events could possibly include a screening of The Lion King at Africa Alive! in Kessingland and a beach screening of Jaws.

Beccles residents can expect more screenings next year as the company say they will 'stick to our roots and stay in East Anglia.'

The hire fee of Caxton Meadow will go towards helping to raise funds for Beccles Caxton Football Club, which is run by one of Mr Banthorpe's team.

Tickets are £12 for adults, £12 for one adult and one child, £6 for an extra child and £8 for teenagers between 15 and 17.
