THE outgoing Pride in the Community Champion has urged readers to nominate a deserved friend, family member or a colleague for this year's awards.

Jill Eaton, who lives in Pakefield, was recognised for her countless efforts helping others, but also for her work as a foster carer, mainly for children with special needs.

She said a year on she was still getting congratulations from people about the accolade.

'I think it's really lovely. People in Lowestoft, Beccles and further afield should nominate someone. There are lots of good things going on. There are people who do charitable things all the time, year after year.

'I couldn't believe it when I won because I personally don't feel like I've done anything differently to anyone else. So think about it and please nominate a person you think should win.'

Once again, the Beccles and Bungay Journal has teamed up with our sister paper The Lowestoft Journal and Pleasurewood Hills to help give thanks to the special people in your lives.

The awards are being held on Tuesday, July 13, at Pleasurewood Hills, in Leisure Way, Lowestoft, in the form of a summer garden party after the closure of the park.

All shortlisted nominees and their families will be treated to a delicious buffet and drinks prepared by the park caterers, which will be served by the lake.

A spectacular free performance of the summer show, Circus and Street Arts will follow in the Castle Theatre before the presentation of the awards by Pleasurewood Hills manager Alexis Camelin and Lowestoft Journal editor Max Bennett.

Mr Bennett said he was looking for stories about people who would never normally seek publicity.

We are looking for modest, hard working characters who work quietly to achieve their goals and help others without ever expecting anything in return.

It could be a business who gives great customer service, a teacher who makes it worth going to school each day or a child who has triumphed over adversity.

These are the sorts of unsung heroes that we want to reward. And now it's up to you to tell us who you think deserves an accolade.

Our sponsor Pleasurewood Hills, established in the early 1980s is proud to have been part of the community for 27 years and is a key part of the region's heritage.

The park also supports many local businesses who supply a range of goods and materials. This commitment to the economy and the people that live and work in the area will provide genuine value to the awards and the community. Having won the Best Visitor Experience 2009 award at the Tourism in Suffolk awards, it only re-iterates the point of working together to continue the shared community partnerships.

All shortlisted entrants will be contacted by the end of June and are invited with members of their family to the lavish awards ceremony.

To nominate someone for one of the nine categories fill in the entry form in The Journal.

Entries close on Thursday, June 10.
