Local organisations are being given the opportunity to step into the spotlight and have their community messages transmitted on 10 plasma screens located across Lowestoft.

Waveney Partnership Television says that any organisation wishing to promote a key local message or a community event, relevant to the time of year, will be eligible and a film crew will be allocated to shoot the clip on January 8.

The pilot project was launched two years ago with the aim of providing a community television network to Waveney, broadcasting useful local information. The project has been hailed a success and a new co-ordinator was recently appointed.

Alan Osborne, Suffolk police eastern area partnership coordinator, said: 'The research figures identify the success of this pilot project and consequently the decision to appoint a new coordinator. With the increased community interest, it is hoped to secure future funding this year.

'The future filming with local venues and faces should also raise the profile of the screens and the messages. It provides a service for the all the funding bodies and to the local community.'

Annette Bowler, the new co-ordinator for Waveney Partnership Television, said: 'This initiative has been developed not only to raise awareness of the remit of the plasma screens, but also of the local community in Waveney. It is a great opportunity for any local community organisation to raise their profile and work with others to get their message out there.'

The screens are sited at Morrisons supermarket in Tower Road, Tesco at Leisure Way, Asda at Horn Hill, Lowestoft College, Waveney Sports and Leisure Centre in Water Lane, Oulton Village Medical Centre, Adventure Island Play Park in Pinbush Road, Palmers department store in London Road North, the Andaman surgery in Long Road and, in the New Year, at the Kirkley Centre - the new premises for Waveney Community Forum.

Local organisations are being invited to send in their future events and filming ideas to place in the Waveney Partnership Television schedule for 2010. Organisations can also promote their local events using posters on the plasma screens. Posters must contain no more than a maximum of 35 characters.

To take advantage of the filming opportunity in the New Year, organisations are being asked to send in details with a brief outline of their proposal by November 30.
