Crowds attracted to all the fun of the school fete

Fun for all the family attracted "an amazing turnout" as a summer fete was hailed a success.

Talented youngsters showcased their skills, teachers were soaked in the stocks and traditional games were enjoyed as Gunton Primary Academy in Lowestoft hosted a successful afternoon of entertainment last Friday, June 15.

Organised by the school’s Parents, Staff and Friends Association (PSFA), lots of different stalls, activities, displays and performances wowed the crowds.

And headteacher, Matthew Jordan, was delighted with how the event went – as funds were raised for an outdoor gym area at the school in Gainsborough Drive.

Mr Jordan said: “We have had an amazing turnout from the whole community – including parents, grandparents, families, friends and lots of old students who have come back and contributed.

“We always have a really nice community feel at our events and the PSFA have done a fantastic job – there has been a real wow factor this year.

“A big well done goes to all the children who volunteered and took part with Casey’s Crew dance performance really brilliant. We must thank all the staff for their support and Waveney MP Peter Aldous for attending today. Mr Aldous has supported the outdoor gym project and we really appreciate his backing.

With sports games, craft stalls, bouncy castles, children’s activities, games, competitions, refreshments and face painting, there was something for everyone at the fete.

Teachers Mr Cullingham and Mrs Stone were among those who stepped in to the stocks to be pelted with sponges, before a group of children took to the centre of the playing field and performed a series of excellent dance moves as Casey’s Crew impressed.

The Yodhinkan Karate Club displayed their skills in an impressive performance, before winners of the 50:50 raffle draw, guess the number of sweets and name the teddy were announced before a raffle featuring numerous prizes brought the fete to a close.

With guest appearances from Waveney MP Peter Aldous and Pirate Pete from Adventure Island Play Park, Mr Aldous said: “This is a great fundraiser for a very important cause. The outdoor gym area is not just for the school its for the whole community – its a very worthwhile project and I am happy to support it.”
