A charity walk illuminated a popular promenade as more than 300 people turned out for a colourful seaside stroll.

Families lit up Lowestoft seafront at the fourth annual Glow Walk last night (Saturday) – but this year there was a special spooky theme.

For the first time, there was a Halloween theme to the two-mile sponsored walk along the promenade, which is held in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

And on Saturday evening, Lowestoft seafront was awash with colour and smiles once more as about 140 children, their parents, family members and carers all stepped out to help raise funds for seriously ill children.

They donned dazzling costumes, dressing in neon colours and spooky Halloween outfits – complete with light-up head boppers and glow sticks – as the family event started and finished at Claremont Pier.

With more than 300 people taking part, the popular Glow Walk was supported by Claremont Pier, Beach Radio and Lowestoft fire-fighters.

Gemma Smith, Suffolk fundraiser for EACH, was delighted once more with the turnout. She said: “Its a lovely event, which is always really popular. We have 140 children taking part and there are more than 300 people here tonight – the children look brilliant in their costumes and they are helping other children.”

It is hoped that the event will raise about £4,000 to boost the charity, supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.
