Royal Norfolk Show organisers will be taking extra precautions to ensure animals stay cool during the predicted heatwave - and they have also issued advice to the expected 100,000 visitors.

With temperatures expected to soar to the high 20s C on Wednesday and Thursday, show manager Sarah de Chair said: 'Animal welfare is a major priority.'

'There will be three vets on site and the animals will be regularly monitored throughout both days. I will be in direct liaison with the vets and if any issues arise they will act on them accordingly.'

She urged visitors to apply sun cream regularly and wear a sun hat and ensure they drink plenty of fluids.

Mrs de Chair said: 'There are plenty of shaded areas for visitors to take advantage of - under the trees, the picnic area in the woods or the covered grandstand seating.'

The show has ordered in extra bottles of water for the judges and stewards.

Mrs de Chair said no dogs should be left in vehicles during this weather, even with a window open.

'If dogs are brought to the show, owners should ensure that they are given access to water regularly during the day.'

A dog crche is being provided this year.
