Many children dream of meeting Mickey Mouse and his famous friends.
But a Carlton Colville couple are hoping that a trip to Disneyworld will help transform their daughter's life – and they are launching an appeal to raise the £6,000 they need to take her there.
Four-year-old Daisy Newman was born with severe cerebral palsy which means she needs round-the-clock care and attention from her parents Wayne and Jo.
Daisy cannot walk, talk, or swallow food and needs resuscitating as she often stops breathing, but she can still be seen with a cheeky smile on her face when she plays with her six-year-old sister Gracie.
Now, Jo and Wayne are hoping to give their daughter a holiday to remember by launching the Give Daisy a Memory appeal. They hope to raise £6,000 so they can take Daisy and Gracie to Florida to give them a trip they will never forget as a much-needed pick-up after what they have gone through.
Jo, 39, who works at the Specsavers store in Lowestoft said: 'Daisy has severe cerebral palsy. She has very limited use of all four of her limbs, she cannot talk or walk or swallow and has to be fed through a tube.
'She does stop breathing and we have to resuscitate her. We have to care for her for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But she is always happy and smiling. She loves being cuddled by people and loves playing with Gracie.
'We want to give Daisy and her sister a holiday that we feel they both deserve. We want to take them to Florida and Disneyworld. Daisy loves Mickey Mouse so she would love to meet him and go swimming with dolphins.'
The first fund-raising for the Give Daisy a Memory Appeal will take place on May 4 when Wayne, 35, puts himself through six hours of gruelling high-intensity exercises at the Nirvana Gym on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate.
Wayne, who runs the gym's Inferno fitness classes, will be putting his body to the test from 10am and 4pm to raise funds through sponsorship. Gym members and non-members are welcome to join some or all of the six hour-long sessions.
Wayne said: 'Sadly there is no cure for Daisy and she has gone through so much. Gracie does such a good job looking after her. We just want to give them a holiday they will always remember.'
As well as the fitness marathon, the family will be holding a raffle on the day with prizes donated by local businesses. Tickets can be bought at the Specsavers store in London Road North.
Gym members and their friends are also running a half-marathon to raise funds for the appeal and Charmed Jewellery in Carlton Colville is selling special Daisy bracelets for £9.99.
