E-LEARNING and ICT resources at Benjamin Britten High School, in Lowestoft, are in the process of having a makeover with a new dual-purpose computer hub in the school's library.

Following research visits to the BETT show in London, the school's ICT team is in the process of developing new learning labs and information hubs.

These are already transforming the school's facilities and pupils are now experiencing the benefits of learning in such environments.

The availability of the technology is aimed at increasing the effective use of ICT in teaching and learning across the curriculum.

Utilising the new suites will enable teachers the accessibility of a computer suite while still being able to teach other, more conventional, parts of the lesson without ICT.

Trevor Osborne, headteacher, said: “ICT is one of many tools that we use as part of the educational process.

“We have moved beyond the IT suite which has to be booked and used for special lessons. It now has to be readily available for students to use as one of the means of study.

“The beauty of the dual-use suite in which the computer can be used at the discretion of the student helps to prepare them for a world where they have to choose the appropriate tool for the work they are asked to do.

“The ability to choose the right tool we believe will be vital in the future.”
