A CATERING company that uses local produce to ensure a “Wow!” factor with all its menus is one of the businesses nominated in the inaugural business awards being promoted by Lowestoft and Waveney Chamber of Commerce.

Wickedly Good Food was set up in November 2005 with two staff and had the simple aim to create local food delivered with that special factor.

The company took a unit on the Reydon Business Park - which it still has - and in February this year also took on the lease at the 13th- century St Peter's Hall restaurant and events venue near Bungay.

Over the past three years the company has grown to 10 full time staff and 45 part-time staff, and its growing reputation means that it now caters for more than 60 weddings and events a year.

Managing director Sam Goodbourn said: “Wickedly Good Food has championed local produce. We have been keen to reduce food miles, and that is why we only use local produce from local suppliers.

“Our aim is to deliver organic, free-range food with the 'Wow!' factor and our reputation has put us at the forefront of our industry, coupled with our creative marketing concepts.”

Wickedly Good Food gives its staff the chance to progress and offers in-house training with its own NVQ assessor.

The business awards have created a lot of interest across the Waveney area, and there are categories for companies of all sizes. Linda Thornton, the chamber's chief officer, has been delighted with the nominations received but welcomes more.

You can see all 17 separate categories below. Awards sponsors include The Journal, Waveney MP Bob Blizzard and 1st East.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Wherry Hotel, Oulton Broad, on November 20, when broadcaster and stage performer Helen McDermott will be compere.

Details of all categories and an application form are available by visiting www.waveneychamber.co.uk (click on the Business Awards 2008 link).
