People from Lowestoft and the surrounding area are being invited to receive free health checks and learn more about the wide range of healthcare services available to them.

On Wednesday, November 29, Alexandra and Crestview GP Surgeries – in partnership with Waveney District Council – are holding a community wellbeing event.

The event at Alexandra Road Surgery in Lowestoft – organised by the council's active communities team – will give residents the opportunity to find out more about health services available to them. Free health checks will also be available, including blood pressure, pulse and weight checks as well as advice on smoking.

Representatives from Andaman, Bridge Road, High Street, Kirkley Mill, Rosedale and Victoria Road Surgeries will also be present.

Mary Rudd, Waveney's cabinet member for community health and safety, said: 'Raising awareness of available services, particularly for help with social and non-medical issues, enables our residents to live healthy and active lives. The event is open to everyone living in Lowestoft and the surrounding area regardless of which GP surgery they are currently registered with and we would encourage people to attend to find out more.'

Tracey Bullard, practice business manager at Alexandra and Crestview Surgeries, said: 'Alexandra and Crestview Surgeries together with Waveney District Council and the six other GP practices in Lowestoft are looking forward to hosting this community event, which will see a range of providers come together to inform residents about the array of different healthcare services that are available to them locally.

'Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk to a variety of specialists including wellbeing, children's services, housing and counselling organisations about their healthcare needs. With limited NHS resources, it is important that patients can access the most appropriate service to meet their needs. Help us to help you by coming along to find out about your options.'

There will also be an opportunity to win a free swim pass from Sentinel Leisure Trust for those answering some simple health questions.

Those interested in the event can come along anytime between 12.30pm and 3.30pm on November 29 with no need to pre-book.
