The 20-year-old entertainer at the Potters Leisure Resort, in Hopton, near Yarmouth, will find out on Friday if he has won a competition to take the lead role of Troy Bolton in the stage version of High School Musical 2.

Ian is one of three remaining contestants left out of hundreds of hopefuls in Thursday's finals of a GMTV television internet contest to find a singer to emulate American teen idol Zac Efron.

The winner of Thursday's internet vote will front a five month national tour of the show from August.

If Ian is announced as the winner on Friday it will be a dream come true for the talented singer, who first discovered his love of show business when he used to go on holiday to Potters.

He said: “I remember sitting on my grandmother's knee watching shows at Potters. And when I was a bit older they would get me up on stage to sing before the shows started.

“If I win this competition it would be the highlight of my career and open many doors for me in future.”

Ian, who performs for the Potters Theatre Company and is from Coventry, said he doubted he would end up as big a heart throb as Zac Efron if he won the contest and that he had been practicing his American accent quite a lot.

He has previously performed at the Royal Windsor Theatre and sang the theme tune for the animated Famous Five television series.

Ian's rival for the GMTV Search for Troy contest are Liam Doyle, 18, from Coventry and 20-year-old James Lacey from Liverpool.

To vote for Ian in Thursday's internet final visit www.gm.tv.

The winner will first appear as Troy Bolton in High School Musical 2: Live on Stage in Wimbledon, London, on August 22.
