The mayor of Lowestoft has spoken out about the “shocking” increase in knife crime following the fatal stabbing of Scotty Tarrant.

Mr Tarrant, 28, died on Saturday, July 7, following a knife attack in Underwood Close.

Mayor Ian Graham said: “These types of crimes in Lowestoft are especially shocking because they happen so infrequently.

“We obviously hoped the recent spate of knife crime wasn’t going to come here, but we will get together with the police and stamp it out.”

He added: “Lowestoft police have a very good reputation for catching those who commit more serious, violent crimes. All we can hope for is swift justice.

“We always tell people to take reasonable precautions on a daily basis, but there is no reason to be scared in Lowestoft.”

A 23-year-old man from Lowestoft was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning where he remains.
