IPSWICH Town's sales and marketing director Andrew Goulborn has become the latest high-profile departure from the football club.

It is understood that Mr Goulborn has left the club after nearly six years of heading up the commercial side of the business.

He is the latest in a series of big-name departures from Portman Road, following in the footsteps of former manager Jim Magilton, ex chief executive Derek Bowden and former academy director and first-team coach Bryan Klug.

Last night a spokesman for Ipswich Town said: “It is not the policy of the club to comment on the status of an individual employee due to the personal nature of such information.”

During his time at the club Mr Goulborn helped secure a four year deal with sports manufacturer Mitre to produce Town's kit and training and bench wear until the 2010/11 season.

He joined Ipswich in 2004 from London based Rise Communications, where he was a founding partner.

He has almost 20 years experience for some of the world's best advertising and media agencies and held a number of senior agency management positions, including that of communications director at Saatchi & Saatchi, where he worked with Mr Bowden for three years.

Mr Goulborn, who was born in Felixstowe and educated at St Joseph's College in Ipswich, is a long term fan of the Blues, first visiting Portman Road in 1969, where he saw Town take on Arsenal.

At the time of his appointment he said: “I'll be switching from loving the work I do to doing the work I love.

“I was close to moving into a sports management job a few years ago and it's always been something I've wanted to do.

“The opportunity to do so with Ipswich Town - my team - makes this about the closest thing to my dream job.”
