AS Lowestoft basks in glorious spring sunshine, the quest to find the town's blooming best is getting under way.

The Lowestoft in Bloom committee is now preparing its entry for this year's regional Anglia in Bloom competition - and this week they sent out a rallying call to gardeners, keen youngsters and allotment holders.

“One of the sections of the regional competition is Grow Your Own,” committee member Gloria Honeywood said. “We would like to use one of the allotments that have entered our Lowestoft in Bloom competition, so we are asking all the allotment owners out there to enter their allotment in our competition as the best local entry will hopefully be able to put forward to represent Lowestoft.”

With the hope that the town will eventually reap all the rewards as the best Lowestoft in Bloom entries go forward into the regional Anglia in Bloom contest, organisers are also encouraging schools to prepare their vegetable plots, gardens, pots and baskets in readiness for this year's contest.

With the allotment holders category for the local competition having a closing date of May 28, locals were this week encouraged to get their entries in quick.

“Why not get all the plots on the site to enter - think of the fun of competing against each other, after all you would be growing vegetables, fruit and flowers in any case, so add another dimension!” Mrs Honeywood said.

The annual Lowestoft in Bloom competition is sponsored locally by Early Dawn Nurseries and supported by Waveney District Council.

To enter into the allotment holders category, or any other section of the Lowestoft in Bloom competition fill in an entry form online from The Journal's website - www.lowestoftjournal24.co.uk - or telephone your entries to either Irene Turrell on 01502 582187 or Gloria Honeywood on 01502 564007.
