A 49-year-old who stabbed a man in Lowestoft High Street has been warned he is likely to be jailed when he is sentenced next month.

James Bowler, of Crown Street West, Lowestoft appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday (April 23), where he denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Before the start of his trial, however, he pleaded guilty to a less serious charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm on October 26 last year.

He also admitted common assault on a second man on the same date.

Adjourning sentence until May 9, judge David Goodin warned Bowler he was likely to receive a prison sentence, but granted Bowler conditional bail to allow him to attend his father's funeral on May 4.

Police officers were called to High Street at 11.40pm on October 26 following reports that a man had been stabbed in the chest. A man in his 40s was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
