Nurses and doctors are being urged to abandon their days off to come and help their hospital deal with a large increase in demand as the snow begins to thaw.
The James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston said it is facing 'extreme pressure', which it believes is down to more patients being able to access the hospital now snow has melted.
Senior managers made the appeal via Twitter earlier today (Sunday, March 4) for staff to come in and help.
Senior manager Jo Fawcus said: 'A&E at James Paget is extremely busy. Please choose wisely and only attend if it is an accident or emergency.
'We are appealing for any James Paget staff who can come in to offer any support.
'We are working closely with our partners to manage this pressure.'
Julia Hunt, director of nursing at the hospital, tweeted: 'The snow is thawing fast and a torrent of patients has hit the James Paget University Hospital.
'The emergency department has been extremely busy since yesterday and today we are experiencing extreme pressure.'
A hospital spokesman added: 'We are seeing significant pressure at the hospital today. Our staff are working together and with local organisations to focus on our patients' needs.'
Unless it is an accident or emergency, members of the public are advised to consider alternative options such as NHS 111, pharmacies and the NHS Choices website.
